Befriending Our "Beautiful Monsters": A Guided Practice to Work with Difficult Emotions

Who else would enjoy this summit?

What You'll Learn

  • Explore how “being with” difficult emotions with non-judgmental, compassionate, embodied awareness allows them to naturally open and transform, revealing the innate well-being and “essence love” at the core of our beings

  • Understand how the cognitive mind can keep us trapped in cycles of emotional struggle by trying to fix, change, ignore, or run away from what we are feeling, rather than meeting it with direct kind awareness

  • Be led in a guided practice to help you work with difficult emotions and connect with your grounded body, open heart, and clear mind

Wonderful!!! Little by little Rinpoche’ concepts open myself, I love his analogies, with body gestures and his caring for humanity. Now I am going to practice until I relate to my monsters, then smooth mi mind which is very critical.

This was very beautiful and now I am not afraid of the negative that will come up and it is all suppose to be. Now I know I don’t stress the mind to fix it, just open and love it and nature it and send compassion to it. Thank you very much

Really enjoyed your simplicity of helping us too deal with difficult situations and thoughts. As I have PTSS, I do believe I would need to do this work with a Somanic Practitioner . Your thoughts?
And how could I obtain a copy of this meditation and interview? Blessings to you.

I cannot thank you enough, Rinpoche, for guiding us through this beautiful practice. It has come at a very apt time. My beautiful monster has been calling to me for some time, getting louder and louder and causing more and more disturbances. I have never been able to sit with it skilfully enough to see it fully. I was really able to listen and to sit fully in its energy with the help of your guidance. Thank you for the freedom in my heartspace!

quick question: in a situation where a child is in stress (like crying / unhapply) in a disturbing emotion – at that moment what should I do? I will approach in a calm matter thats for sure..but I am a little bit confused, Shall I try to calm him down by letting him to talk about his feelings or? or wait and let this emotion pass away and then talk about it.. sometimes talking about his feeling makes him exaggerate his feelings..
for my son, I just want to know the best way to handle this kind of situations.

    • Chenise knox June 16, 2021 at 3:50 am - Reply

Depending on how old your child is, they may not have the language to genuinely describe their feelings, and/or understanding of what they are feeling. To ask them to do this is distressing if that is the case. I have four children aged 15 to 1 years, and I personally find it is just better and probably more in line with this practice also to just sit with them quietly through whatever it is, give reassurance that it will pass and they are in fact ok, it’s just a feeling, and explain that you want to listen and help wherever you can. Don’t try to distract them or tell them not to cry or “don’t get mad” as this is denying them the acceptance of their emotions, just be there in the moment with them and be there for them when they need you

Dear Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Thank-you so very much for your warmth, your sense of humour 😉 and wonderful Monster Befriending Ourselves Meditation Guide, I felt an instant shift of okay-ness with ‘my crocodiles’ 😉 and BEING with the sensations of what was arising and falling during the meditation dropping deep into the body awareness of the felt sense. May I not turn away from suffering “my crocodiles” energy and that of another suffering in front of me off the cushion in daily life interactions, thank-you so very much for the ‘hand shake’ willingness offering of how to work with difficult monsters 😉 mine, yours and others, for the benefit of ALL BEINGS. Deep Bow, appreciation and devotion to ending suffering in this world. May we all live and die peacefully.
Thank-you very much Awake Network for this opportunity to MEET Tsoknyi Rinpoche and everyone else, deep appreciation for this summit, May you all be well and blessed with good health and wellbeing all year round.

Accepting and embracing the difficult emotions instead of resisting them. Still dukkha, but less dukkha. More insightful, eventually.

I have returned to watch this interview with Tsoknyi Rinpoche because he impacted me so deeply. I have so much to learn and practice in befriending and being with my beautiful monsters. This is so hopeful for me to find a teacher who talks so clearly about all my different and failed techniques. I am open and hungry to learn more. Thank you Tsoknyi Rinpoche for being who you are, teacher, guide, and compassionate, wise and humorous human being.
